Stade Mohammed V

During AFCON 2025, Casablanca stands out as one of the tournament’s most prominent host cities, and that comes as no surprise. The vibrant port city on Morocco’s Atlantic coast is not only the country’s economic powerhouse but also a place where football is deeply woven into daily life. Nowhere else in Morocco is the passion for the game felt as intensely as here. At the center of it all lies the legendary Stade Mohammed V, home to giants Raja Casablanca and Wydad Casablanca and the beating heart of Moroccan football.

On this page, you will find everything you need to know about this iconic stadium; its history, the matches hosted here during AFCON 2025 and practical information on how to get there.

Stade Mohammed V

Stadium information

The Stade Mohammed V, located in the Maârif district, is without question one of Africa’s most historic football venues. Originally opened in 1955 as Stade Marcel Cerdan, it was renamed Stade d’Honneur after Morocco’s independence and has proudly borne the name Stade Mohammed V since 1981.

Over the decades, the stadium has hosted countless iconic football moments. The fiery Casablanca Derby between Raja and Wydad attracts massive crowds, with a record attendance of over 110,000 fans in 1997 (one of the most intense atmospheres ever seen on the continent).

Ahead of AFCON 2025, the stadium underwent major renovations. With a seating capacity of around 45,000, refurbished locker rooms, a modernized press area and upgraded facilities, the venue now meets CAF and FIFA international standards. The renovations were completed in early 2025, with an official reopening ceremony held in late March.
