Complexe Sportif de Fès

Fès, one of Morocco’s oldest and most culturally rich cities, provides a stunning backdrop for top-level football during AFCON 2025. With its deep history, narrow alleyways and world-famous medina, Fès is not only a must-see destination, but also an ideal host city for this prestigious tournament. At the heart of the city’s football scene stands the Complexe Sportif de Fès, a modern stadium that can accommodate around 35,000 spectators.

Stadium information

The Complexe Sportif de Fès is a multi-purpose stadium that has served as the home ground for Maghreb de Fès and Wydad de Fès since its official opening in 2007. Construction began in 1994 after earlier plans in the 1990s were delayed. Originally, the stadium was intended to be completed in time for AFCON 1997, but various setbacks postponed completion until 2003. The official inauguration finally took place in 2007.

Ahead of AFCON 2025, the stadium is undergoing major renovations to meet CAF’s standards. Upgrades include improved dressing rooms, enhanced spectator comfort and safety, and better sightlines throughout the stands. Looking beyond the tournament, additional developments are planned, including the removal of the athletics track to bring fans closer to the pitch and an increase in overall capacity for future events.

Accessibility

Thanks to its central location within Morocco and a well-developed transport network, the stadium is easy to reach. Depending on your starting point and preferences, visitors can travel by train, bus, taxi, or private car. Below is an overview of the main transport options.

Train

Fès is served by Gare de Fès, a key station in Morocco’s national rail network (ONCF), with regular connections to major cities such as Rabat, Casablanca, Marrakech, Meknès and Oujda. From the station, the stadium can be reached in about 15–20 minutes by taxi or bus, depending on traffic.

Tram

Fès does not have a tram system. Urban transport mainly relies on buses and taxis.

Bus

Public bus services in Fès are operated by City Bus Fès. Various lines connect the suburbs to the city center and the areas around the stadium. Routes may vary, but there are usually direct or connecting lines to the Saïss district, where the stadium is located.

Taxi

Taxis are among the most popular ways to get around Fès. There are two types:

  • Petit taxis (small): affordable for short trips within the city, easily recognized by their light blue color.
  • Grand taxis (large, shared): often used for travel between districts or nearby cities, though routes are less flexible.

Car

For those driving, the stadium is easily accessible via the main roads surrounding Fès, including the N6 and R501. There are parking facilities near the stadium, though they may be crowded during major events such as the Africa Cup of Nations.
