Head Coach Tunisia

Sami Trabelsi, 57 year old, is an experienced coach and former defender with over 80 caps for Tunisia. He previously served as national team coach between 2011 and 2013, during which he guided Tunisia to the African Nations Championship (CHAN) title and qualified for the 2012 and 2013 AFCON tournaments. Afterward, he spent nearly a decade coaching Al-Sailiya SC in Qatar, gaining valuable international experience, expertise he now brings back to Tunisian football.
Star Player Tunisia

Aïssa Laïdouni has become a central figure in Tunisia’s midfield, thanks to his consistent club-level performances. After winning three league titles and a domestic cup with Ferencváros in Hungary, he made the move to Union Berlin in early 2023, where he played a crucial role in securing the club’s first-ever Champions League qualification. In July 2024, he transferred to Al-Wakrah SC in Qatar.
Since his international debut in March 2021, Laïdouni has been a fixture in the national team. He was a starter during Tunisia’s World Cup campaign, including the memorable win over France and also stood out at AFCON 2023. In 2022, he was voted Tunisian Footballer of the Year. His physical strength, tactical intelligence and relentless pressing make him indispensable for both club and country.
Tunisia AFCON History
Tunisia have been a regular force at AFCON for decades, building up an impressive record along the way. While not always considered among the absolute favorites, the Carthage Eagles have often fought their way deep into tournaments, surprising some of Africa’s strongest sides. Their history reflects a mix of disappointments and glorious moments, with 2004 marking the pinnacle.
Since their debut in 1962, Tunisia have taken part in the Africa Cup 22 times. Their crowning achievement came in 2004, when, as hosts, they lifted the trophy after defeating Morocco in the final. They also reached the finals in 1965 and 1996 but narrowly missed out on the title. Over the years, Tunisia have reached multiple semi-finals and quarter-finals, cementing their reputation as one of Africa’s most consistent performers.
Another remarkable fact: Tunisia have qualified for every single AFCON since 1994, a streak they proudly continue in 2025.
Road to AFCON 2025
Tunisia’s qualification campaign was inconsistent at times, but they ultimately secured their place without major problems. The Carthage Eagles started strongly with wins against Madagascar and Gambia but dropped points against group winners Comoros and suffered a surprising home defeat to Gambia. Still, they showed resilience by earning crucial away victories. With 10 points from 6 matches, Tunisia comfortably booked their ticket to Morocco.
