Head Coach Sudan

James Kwesi Appiah, former Ghana international and national team coach, is no stranger to the African football stage. Known for his tactical insight and ability to build resilient teams, he declared with confidence: “Winning AFCON 2025 is my goal.” His experience and leadership will be vital if Sudan is to enjoy a successful tournament.
Star Player Sudan

Mohamed Abdelrahman has become an icon of Sudanese football, both at Al-Hilal Omdurman and with the national team. At club level, he has been one of the most prolific strikers of recent years, winning multiple Sudan Premier League and Sudan Cup titles, including the 2024/25 season, when Al Hilal Omdurman lifted both the Elite League and the Sudan Cup. He also reached a remarkable milestone by scoring over 100 goals in the Sudanese league, an achievement only few players in the country’s history can claim.
On the international stage, Abdelrahman has been just as crucial. During the AFCON 2025 qualifiers, he led the attack with key goals and decisive performances that helped Sudan secure their place at the tournament. His rare combination of scoring ability, leadership, and experience (both in domestic and continental football) makes him the standout star of the Falcons of Jediane.
Sudan AFCON History
Sudan is one of the founding nations of the AFCON, having participated in the very first tournament in 1957. In those early years, they played a prominent role, reaching the final three times and claiming their greatest triumph in 1970 when they lifted the trophy on home soil. That victory cemented Sudan’s lasting place in African football history.
Since those glory days, success has been harder to come by. For decades, Sudan endured inconsistent results, with only occasional qualifications and early exits. Yet the team always found its way back, driven by passion and a deep-rooted footballing culture.
Road to AFCON 2025
Sudan endured a turbulent yet ultimately successful qualification campaign for the Africa Cup 2025. With impressive results against African powerhouse Ghana and a solid draw against Angola, the Falcons of Jediane secured second place in their group. Despite a painful defeat to Niger, they collected enough points to qualify, showcasing their resilience and determination along the way.
