Head Coach Senegal

Pape Thiaw as head coach of Senegal

Pape Thiaw ushers in a new era for Senegalese football. A former striker, he was part of the legendary 2002 World Cup squad that reached the quarter-finals. His playing career took him across France’s Ligue 1, Spain, and Switzerland, experience he now brings into coaching.

After leading Senegal’s local team to victory at the 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN), Thiaw was promoted to head coach of the senior national side. Known for combining attacking flair with defensive structure, he has embraced both seasoned leaders and fresh talent, with one clear mission: to keep Senegal at the top of African football.

Star Player Senegal

Sadio Mané as star player of Senegal

Sadio Mané remains the face of Senegalese football and one of the finest players of his generation. After a decorated spell at Liverpool, winning the 2019 Champions League and the 2020 Premier League, he moved to Bayern Munich in 2022. Bringing his explosive pace, skill and eye for goal to the Bundesliga.

On the international stage, Mané has delivered historic success, most notably leading Senegal to their first-ever AFCON title in 2021 and playing a decisive role in World Cup 2022 qualification. In 2024, he once again proved his value with crucial goals and assists in key matches. More than just a world-class attacker, Mané’s humility and perseverance make him an inspirational figure both on and off the pitch.

Senegal AFCON History

Senegal have long been one of Africa’s strongest footballing nations. Since making their debut in 1965, they have consistently competed at the highest level, often reaching the latter stages. Their crowning achievement came in 2021, when they lifted the AFCON trophy for the first time after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Egypt.

The Lions of Teranga had previously reached the final in 2002, falling to Cameroon and have also made several semi-final appearances (1990, 1992, 2006). Their regular presence among the continent’s elite underlines their status as perennial contenders.
