Côte d’Ivoire AFCON History
Côte d’Ivoire’s story at the Africa Cup is one of persistence, heartbreak and ultimate triumph. Long seen as perennial contenders, The Elephants endured several painful defeats in finals before their first success in 1992. More disappointment followed in 2006 and 2012, but in 2015 they finally lifted the trophy again, defeating Ghana in a dramatic penalty shootout.
The greatest chapter, however, came in 2023. After a turbulent group stage and a mid-tournament change of coach, the team mounted an unforgettable comeback on home soil to claim their third title. That victory reinforced Côte d’Ivoire’s place among Africa’s elite and reignited their hunger for more.
Road to AFCON 2025
Despite being reigning champions, Côte d’Ivoire were not given automatic qualification and had to secure their spot through Group G. They impressed with commanding victories over Chad and Sierra Leone, though they dropped points away to Zambia and Sierra Leone. Ultimately, their strength, depth and attacking firepower saw them safely through, ensuring that The Elephants will once again contend for Africa’s biggest prize.
