Head Coach Cameroon

Marc Brys as head coach of Cameroon

Belgian coach Marc Brys took charge in April 2024, succeeding Rigobert Song after a disappointing AFCON 2025 campaign in Ivory Coast. Despite inheriting a difficult situation, Brys has quickly made his mark.

“My goal is to give the players confidence, encourage responsibility and allow them freedom within a clear framework,” explained the 62-year-old coach. “They must show courage on the pitch and keep developing themselves. What makes this group special is that everyone commits to the collective.”

Star Player Cameroon

Bryan Mbeumo as star player of Cameroon

Bryan Mbeumo has emerged as one of the Premier League’s most exciting forwards in recent years. At Brentford, he had already shown flashes of brilliance, but the 2024/25 season marked his true breakout: 13 goals in his first 20 matches, placing him among the league’s top scorers, which is a remarkable achievement for a Cameroonian player in England. His pace, technique and clinical finishing make him a constant threat, while his versatility allows him to operate across the frontline.

Now wearing the national team shirt at his first Africa Cup, after injury kept him out previously, Mbeumo carries the hopes of the nation. With his European experience, sharpness in front of goal and natural flair, he brings exactly what Cameroon need in their hunt for a sixth continental crown.

Cameroon AFCON History

Cameroon stand among the most successful nations in the history of the Africa Cup. Since their debut in 1970, the Indomitable Lions have grown into a dominant force, winning the trophy five times. Their golden era came during the 1980s and early 2000s, when they lifted the cup four times in less than 20 years. Most recently, in 2017, they reaffirmed their status as African heavyweights with another title.

But their story is not without struggle. Early exits, failed qualifications and campaigns that fell short remind fans that success is never guaranteed. This blend of legendary victories and painful setbacks has shaped one of the most captivating AFCON legacies on the continent.

Road to AFCON 2025

Cameroon’s qualification campaign for the 2025 edition showcased defensive solidity and clinical efficiency. In a group with Zimbabwe, Kenya and Namibia, the Lions remained unbeaten, conceding just two goals across six matches. Collecting 14 points, they comfortably secured their place in Morocco and arrive with momentum on their side.
